International Schools Canggu: Fees, Curricula and Where to Live
Compare international schools near Canggu: curricula, ages and the 2026/27 fees the schools publish, plus which villa areas keep the school run short.
If you are moving to southwest Bali with children, choose the school first and the villa second: the school run is the trip you will make most often. This guide compares international schools within reach of Canggu: Canggu Community School (CCS) in Tibubeneng, the Lycée Français and ProEd Global School in Umalas, ProEd’s Nuanu campus, Sunrise School in the Kerobokan area and Green School inland, with curricula, ages and the 2026/27 fees the schools publish (checked in October 2026).
How to choose a school in Bali as an expat family
Curriculum first, then language, entry ages and support, then the commute.
Curriculum and your next move
CCS uses British-style year groups (Early Years to Year 13) and teaches the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in the last two years. ProEd teaches the Cambridge curriculum from Nursery. The Lycée Français follows the French system from age two to Terminale, the final year of secondary school. Green School teaches a progressive, research-based curriculum from Pre-K to Grade 12. If you may move home or on within a few years, choose the system your next schools use.
Language
CCS asks for two years of school reports in English and may assess a child’s English. ProEd and Green School list English-language support as a paid extra; at ProEd, EAL (English as an Additional Language) costs IDR 21 million a year. The Lycée offers a trilingual education in French, English and Indonesian from preschool. Ask what support a newcomer gets, and for how long.
Entry ages and class size
The Lycée takes children from age two, CCS welcomes applicants aged 3 to 17, and ProEd covers ages 3 to 18. Green School asks for a minimum enrollment of 12 months (one semester in Early Years). Class sizes were not stated on the pages we checked, so ask, along with what learning support costs: ProEd lists an individual education plan (IEP) at IDR 26.25 million a year.
The daily trip
Allow extra time at the morning and afternoon peaks, roughly 7 to 9 am and 4 to 7 pm, and try the route at school time before you sign a lease. Green School, inland in Abiansemal, is a much longer ride from the coastal villages than the schools around Umalas.

What international school costs in Bali (2026/27)
Published tuition for 2026/27 at CCS, the Lycée Français and ProEd ranges from IDR 58.9 million a year (the youngest class at the Lycée) to IDR 272 million (the IB Diploma at CCS). Schools add one-time registration fees and yearly levies or fees, so the first year costs clearly more than tuition alone.
Example: one child in early primary school, first year, from the 2026/27 schedules.
| School and level | Tuition | Yearly levies and fees | One-time fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| CCS, Year 3 | IDR 173 million | IDR 31 million (capital and materials levies) | IDR 19.5 million, plus a refundable deposit of IDR 50 million |
| ProEd Umalas, Year 3 | IDR 115.5 million | IDR 33.6 million (three levies) | IDR 11 million |
| Lycée Français, elementary (CP–CM2) | IDR 108.5 million | IDR 11.3 million (annual registration) | IDR 16.25 million |
That is about IDR 224 million for the first year at CCS, IDR 160 million at ProEd Umalas and IDR 136 million at the Lycée, before discounts and extras.
- Discounts: paying the year at once saves 5% at CCS and, for new families, at ProEd; the Lycée gave 7% for full payment before 15 May 2026, so ask about the date for next year. Green School charges 3% more for paying by semester and, for existing families only, 8% more by term. Sibling discounts run from 3% to 20%.
- Extras: exam fees (IDR 3–5 million at the Lycée; IB exam fees are billed separately at CCS) and Green School’s high school activity fee of IDR 7.25 million. We found no published prices for uniforms, lunches or transport, so ask.
- Leaving early: Green School keeps the deposit if a child leaves before the 12-month minimum, and the Lycée refunds nothing on early departure unless the child moves to another French or AEFE-network school.
For rent and daily costs, see our cost of living guide.
Applying: timing and documents
Apply as soon as you know your moving date. Each school runs its own process:
- CCS: an online application (non-refundable fee IDR 2.5 million), two years of school reports in English (other languages translated and notarized) and a student profile. Applications are accepted all year and reviewed when a seat is free; an English assessment may follow.
- Lycée Français: an online form, then contact from the admissions team and an invoice; registration fees paid before 15 May give priority. Mid-year entry needs the head of school’s approval and a free place, and short stays are billed by the week, for at least six weeks.
- Green School: an application fee for each enrollment cycle; the registration fee reserves a place or a spot on the waitlist.
Ask each school for its full document list, including any visa papers; the admissions pages we read do not mention them.
What “SPK” means for international schools in Indonesia
In Indonesia, a school run in cooperation between a foreign education institution and an Indonesian one is an SPK (Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama, cooperation school). The 2014 education ministry regulation on these schools, Permendikbud 31/2014, says an SPK must be accredited by Indonesia’s national accreditation body, may not use the word “international” in its name and may not turn away Indonesian applicants. Indonesian students must take religion, Pancasila (state philosophy) and civics, and Indonesian; foreign students must learn Indonesian language and culture. Ask any school how it is licensed and accredited in Indonesia.
Visas for children
A child who lives here with you needs a suitable visa or stay permit too. Under the 2023 visa regulation (Permenkumham 22/2023), an unmarried child under 18 can join a parent who holds a KITAS or KITAP (limited or permanent stay permit) on a family-unification permit. Not every visa allows dependents: in 2024 the remote worker visa (E33G) had no dependent visa, while the Second Home visa can include family members. Codes and fees change, so speak to a licensed visa agent before you enroll, and read our guide to visas for living in Bali.
